Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils consider themselves a rock band, but have been winning the adoration of blues and Americana fans from across the U.S. and beyond. Powerful vocals and rootsy guitar work lay the foundation of a sound that is truly American. As one New York reviewer stated: "Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils sound like they made a serendipitous wrong turn on their way to the juke joint and wound up in a countrypolitan cathedral instead”. Jennifer cut her teeth on Detroit gospel before hitting the gritty local bars that set her career in motion. She has been a Detroit Music Award winner and nominee in several categories, and has contributed music to multiple Emmy-winning commercials and documentaries, as well as film. She first began to consider music as a career due to the encouragement of a professor of music who had served as ensemble choir director for the late Bishop C.L. Franklin, father of Aretha. Performing in church led to studio work for local R&B, soul, roots and blues artists, and singing backup for acts including Motown artist Carl Carlton (Bad Mama Jama). Those experiences gave her insight on the direction she ultimately wanted to pursue in her own music. Whether it has been singing for 7 people or 70,000, a desire to connect with the listener is a hallmark of her performance. Sharing the bill with rock icon Patti Smith at the world’s largest Masonic Temple marked a personal highlight of her performance career. Guitarist Dylan Dunbar worked his way up the food chain of Detroit area blues clubs to perform with two WC Handy award winners, Chef Chris and Johnny Yard Dog Johns. He's recorded and toured with The Rumpshakers and country artist Whitey Morgan, among others. His ability to adeptly perform blues, rock, soul and country makes him the perfect complement to Jennifer’s diverse vocal abilities. Dylan was an All State award winning jazz instrumentalist, performing with Frank Montooth at just 16 years of age. Joined by one of the Motor City's finest rhythm sections, nothing is out of bounds -- The sky truly is the limit for Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils.
